Best Practices for DVCs
The DVC should give general feedback and specific information on deficiencies to help SOs improve during the formal audit period. To promote effective communication, CMS encourages open discussions of any issues and findings with the specific SO. But CMS doesn’t need SOs’ submissions of corrective action plans, either written or verbal, to be given to the DVC.
To maintain its independence, the DVC shouldn’t submit questions on behalf of the SO about correct reporting procedures of data. The DVC shouldn’t help the SO with its reporting procedures.
The DVC should maintain the confidentiality of SOs’ privileged information. The DVC should avoid sharing general or specific information about how SOs’ data look or compare to other organizations. The DVC should refrain from discussing a specific SO’s issues and findings with other SOs.
