Data Extraction & Sampling Overview

CMS allows DVCs to use the following 2 methods to extract data for each reporting section:

1. Full census: Extract every record used in the calculation of data elements for a reporting section.
   • When possible, use this method. Extracting the full census is the most precise method to determine how exactly SOs have submitted data.
2. Random sample: Extract a subset of the full census if the size and complexity of data is impractical to extract every record for a reporting section.
   • Avoid using the random sample, if possible, because it doesn’t offer as precise an evaluation of data accuracy and requires reliance on a statistical estimate of accuracy.
