Data Extraction & Sampling Overview

The DVC follows the instructions in Appendix H: Data Extraction and Sampling Instructions of the DV Manual to extract and evaluate census or sample files to support validation of Part C and Part D reporting sections.

The DVC determines whether the SO’s staff extracts data before, during, or after the on-site or virtual visit and whether the SO supervises the SO’s staff extraction of census or sample files, which CMS highly recommends.

If the SO doesn’t supervise the extraction, refer to Section 1 of the Data Extraction and Sampling Instructions on documenting the extraction process.
